General Information

About
“Cobbled Bits of Bone” is an English-language free digital fanzine for Arkane Studios’ Dishonored series. This zine is a collection focusing on all things related to the Dishonored games, books, and comics. The zine will be SFW with an optional NSFW digital companion. This zine will no longer feature an NSFW companion, as not enough contributors were interested in it.

About the moderator team

Head Mod: Iva
(she/her)
Iva is an avid Dishonored fan who cannot stop gushing over Teague Martin (he did nothing wrong!) and the Abbey of the Everyman. The series has reignited her love for art and writing, and she’s looking forward to all the great work that will come from the zine!

Layout/Editing Mod: Aster
(she/they)
Aster has been a fan of Dishonored for several years, though they have never been too involved with the fandom - until now! They’re excited to meet other fans of the game by helping put together this zine!

Art Mod: Dawn
(she/her)
Dawn has loved Dishonored for years - though she hasn't participated in the fandom much beyond lurking in the background, she's excited to be a part of the zine. Her favorite character is Billie Lurk and her OTP is Corvo/taking a Voiddamned nap.

Writing, Graphics Mod: Mae
(she/her)
Mae has been in love with the Dishonored franchise for 8 years and has been active in the community as a writer and artist. Her favourite character is Teague Martin and she enjoys participating in meta discussions and the creation of Alternative Universes.

Writing Mod: Shores
(she/her)
Shores is a writer and longtime Dishonored enthusiast who will take every opportunity to remind you she has 100%’ed all the games – yes, including the Dunwall City Trials. No, we don’t know what’s wrong with her either, but it’s that kind of perfectionism that makes her an excellent beta reader and editor!

For interested contributors

Application Forms (open from June 25th - July 25th 2021)
Are now closed! Thank you to everyone who submitted!

What kind of contributors are you looking for?
We are primarily seeking out page artists, writers, and digital merchandise artists. The number of contributors will partially depend on the number of applications received.

What are the application requirements for page artists?
We expect to see three sample pieces, preferably in the art style you would like to create in. At least one of these pieces should have a completed background. Dishonored-centric pieces are preferred, but are not required.

If content warnings apply, a document with potential content warnings is appreciated! Further, if your art is traditional, please scan it at a legible quality, ideally around 300 dpi.

What are the application requirements for writers?
We expect to see a portfolio submitted of at least three writing pieces. Each piece should be no longer than 1500 words, and the portfolio should not total more than 5000 words. One of these works should be completed, the rest can be excerpts. Ideally one of these works should be Dishonored-centric, but this is not a requirement. If you wish to contribute for the NSFW companion in addition to the main zine (18+ only), please submit an additional sample that shows your off your skills in that department.
If content warnings apply, a document with potential content warnings is appreciated! You can use already-published works for your portfolio.

What are the application requirements for merch artists?
Similar to page artists, we expect to see a portfolio of three sample pieces that showcase your skills in producing digital merchandise. Dishonored-centric pieces are preferred, but not required.

Note that based on our interest checks the following digital merchandise is desired: sticker sheets, prints, desktop and phone wallpapers, emojis, and icons. These are the primary types of digital merchandise we are seeking out, however if prospective digital merch artists have a different idea, they are welcome to submit a pitch and it will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis!

What are the contributors going to create?
We are looking for any and all canon-setting depictions of anything to do with the Dishonored games, books, and comics. This means that we are striving to allow for as much creative freedom as is feasible while still keeping the canon Dishonored characters and settings. This also means that we are accepting canon-divergent art/writing as long as they take place in any of the settings mentioned/explored in canon media.

*Please check back in the future for more specific content requirements!

What will be expected of me?
A general attitude of respect is required from all zine members, whether they be a member of the mod team or a contributor. You must be willing to contribute what you have agreed to, within the given timeline. Technical aspects will be given once your application is accepted! You must also be willing to use Discord, as this will be our central communication channel. If there are legitimate reasons why this is not possible, exceptions can be managed. Acceptance of criticism and changes is also expected. We understand this can be difficult, but this is a part of the publication process!

What can I expect?
You can expect a caring, anti-crunch team! This moderation team recognizes the importance of accountability, and we are therefore always open to feedback.

I have a question that wasn’t answered here. What do I do?
First, please check here for the link to a thread of answered to received CuriousCat questions! If you’re still uncertain, you can always send us your question via any of our social media accounts - email, CC, Twitter, or Tumblr!
